Since its formation in January 2005 the Academy has gone from strength-to-strength and now boasts over 600 members from all over the UK.

It is targeted specifically at athletes aged under 20 years and will act as a stepping stone to the full senior membership of the British Milers’ Club. It is open to athletes who have achieved the BMC Academy standards and for those moving into the senior ranks they too will have to attain the full BMC standards.

The Academy caters for the 400m/800m type of athlete who lacks middle distance experience and there is an entry standard at 400m for U17 and U15 boys and also U17 girls while the U15 girls are accepted on the strength of their best 300m. These are designed to give the athlete with poor endurance adequate time to improve and develop their speed and endurance so they can eventually gain the standards at 800m, 1500m and 3000m.

UKA qualified coaches are also invited to join the BMC and they will be helped and supported with their development and are welcome at all BMC events.

The Academy provides racing opportunities at our PB Classic Meetings such as the legendary Millfield meeting and at Trafford along with other meetings across the country. Our famous residential, training and educational courses have also been held at venues such as Ardingly, Sussex; Ogmore, South Wales; Irthlingborough, Northants; Cliff College, Peak District and our current base of Spinkhill, Sheffield. All of these have been resounding successes with athletes such as Hannah England benefitting from the weekends and coming back time after time. Most of these courses have been sell-outs such is their popularity and a series of one-day courses are also being added due to demand.
